I would like to share a story about last Thursday. There are many topics in my life that I feel define myself as an individual. Some are more important than others. I won't bore you with any more than the top five in mostly reverse order.
5) Football - American football, not soccer. I have an above average understanding of the game.
Now for the top four, which after football have a common theme. There's some stuff in life that just isn't right.
4) My bizarre fascination with what is going on with the world of Scientology. A criminal cult that has perpetrated human trafficking and the single largest theft of US government documents in history. Brainwashing, bizarre deaths, suicides by people that pissed away their life savings. Etc....
3) Leukemia. It's not right that a couple can lose their daughter who spent more than a quarter of her life in the hospital and died before her fourth birthday.
1) (Yes, one, I'll get to number 1) - my dog. My crack teammate finally gave up the ghost on July 3rd. On Thursday night I got a phone call from a puppy mill asking if I was the guy that was lookimg for a German Shepherd puppy. Caller ID and the Internet - assholes - it's way too easy to figure out. Since I disposed of my dog's body at an emergency clinic 40 miles away because it was the only thing open it's obvious that they got my phone number from the emergency clinic paperwork I filled out. Very poor taste. No grieving pet owner should ever have to be submitted to someone trying to make a sale based on a state of emotional weakness.
2) Internet poker - with no dog it was only natural I spent significant time playing poker this weekend. Things were obviously set on "impossible mode." And tonight I'm met with a table where PokerStars tried WAAAAYYYY too hard to make it look for real with an insane amount of idle chit chat that hasn't been present for ages.
Cheat me, have me log out and stop pretending it's for real. You've preyed on human gambling addiction for too long and it's time, like Scientology, to slip away into obscurity.
